Irene holds an Honors Fine Arts degree from Concordia University and a Masters in Museum Studies and Art History from the University of Toronto. She has taught Art History at the University of Toronto and York University and concurrently worked at the Royal Ontario Museum in a curatorial position providing cataloguing and collections management services based on sound academic and professional credentials.
Irene was a Trustee of the National Gallery of Canada for 2 terms, a member of the Board Acquisitions Committee for 2 terms and Committee Chair of the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography also for 2 terms. She has also been an Accredited Appraiser in the Fine Arts Division of International Society of Appraisers (ISA) since 1997.
While art and art history has been the focus of her career, Irene has undertaken research courses and attended numerous symposia on authentication and provenance developments, which have been critical to the accurate identification of works of art. She remains current on exploring the complex historical, legal and moral challenges posted by the potential presence of Nazi-looted cultural property in public collection.
